| | There are two type of smart card commonly. Contact Smart Card and Contactless Smart Card. But now with the growth of technology, Smart Card has another type now. Which is Hybrid / Combo / Dual Interface Smart Card type. Which means that one card but can be use for contact or even contactless. But actually there is one thing that differs the type. That is 1 card with 2 chips ( Contact + Contactless) , or 1 card with 1 chip ( Contact & Contactless) .
What is the difference?
Hybrid / Combo card is a card that has 2 embedded Smart Card chips inside. That is the contact smart card chip and contactless smart card chip. So while the card is inside the contact smart card reader, the chip being accessed is only the contact smart card chip. And when accessed by using contactless smart card, only the contactless smart card chip are being detected. The benefit is there are two separated storages.
Dual Interface card is a card that only has 1 chip that can be functioning contact and contactless in the same card. By using dual mode smart card reader which has reader for contact smart card and contactless smart card can be use to access the card. The benefit of this card is the security level for the card is very good, and even better than the hybrid card in both interfaces.
Application that can be build by using this card is application that needs a high security and also application that provides or needs dual function for the user usage.
